Proton Wira CE costs in Singapore, road tax and car insurance

What the Proton Wira CE 1.5 costs in Singapore: road tax, the COE category rule and car insurance from 11 insurers for one driver, dated.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Proton Wira CE is a 1.5-litre version of the Wira, and any you find in Singapore today will be a used car. This page looks at what it costs you each year. It covers road tax, car insurance and the COE rule, then the costs that depend on how you use it.

Every insurance figure here is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own premium will depend on your details.

The car on our form

There is no Wira CE on the new-car list we read, so no list price appears here. Our quote form prices the Proton Wira CE 1.5, with a 1,468cc engine.

The COE rule

For the Wira CE 1.5, with its 1,468cc engine, the COE category depends on power:

  • Category A: power of 97kW (130bhp) or less. S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round.
  • Category B: power above that. S$130,100 in the same round.

On a used car the COE is already paid, and it has a fixed end date. Find out how many years are left, since that shapes the price you pay. The COE page has the latest round.

Road tax

Under LTA's formula, the 1,468cc engine pays S$665.48 a year, before any age surcharge.

Cars over 10 years old pay a surcharge on top:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

For an older model, check the registration date and budget for the band it falls in. The road tax page covers other engine sizes.

Insuring the Wira CE

The Proton Wira CE price page prices this profile:

  • Car: Wira CE 1.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons

A narrower spread

11 insurers give an online price. Five on our panel have none for this model yet; the price page lists them.

The lowest premium is S$586.41 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,005.48, which is S$419.07 more, or 71% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That gap is still a large sum to pay for the same cover.

The excess

All plans on this page carry an excess. Most are S$500 or S$600, and the rest are S$750 or S$800. None go higher. Even so, check the excess beside each premium.

Estimates

Some of the prices are marked as estimates. Confirm those on the insurer's own site, where you finish buying.

How the lowest price moves

The price page shows these lowest prices when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$889.48, S$303.07 more
  • 20% NCD: S$889.48, S$303.07 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$889.48, S$303.07 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$586.41, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less

Without NCD the lowest price goes up 52%. A 20% NCD, or a 27-year-old driver, gives the same figure. The driver aged 65 pays the same as the standard driver, with one fewer insurer quoting. An 8-year-old car is cheaper to insure at the lowest price, which suits an older model like this.

These lines show the lowest price only. Other plans may move by more or less.

What to check before you choose

  • Car age: the profile assumes a car 3 years old. If yours is older, check that each insurer will still price it.
  • Workshop: the prices assume an authorised workshop. Plans allowing any workshop may price differently.
  • Named drivers: check who may drive, and what adding a driver costs.
  • NCD protection: an optional extra on some plans, not in these prices.

Next to similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page sets out six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$735.99. The Wira CE, at S$586.41, is 20% below it, and none of the six costs less to insure. Other Proton models are on the Proton car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.

The costs only you can price

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, and parking at work and when out.
  • Petrol: your mileage and the pump price set this.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the time of day.
  • Servicing and repairs: on an older car, ask for the service record and check how easy parts are to find.
  • Depreciation: depends on the price you pay against the COE years left and what you might sell for.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Proton Wira CE 1.5, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$665.48 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)

  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$889.48
