You will only find a Proton Wira Special Edition in Singapore as a used car, and probably an older one. That puts the focus on two figures: what the road tax becomes as the car ages, and what you pay to insure it. This page covers both, plus the COE rule and the running costs that vary from owner to owner.
The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not a quote.
What we priced
The new-car list we read has no Wira Special Edition, so we give no list price. Our quote form prices it as one version, the Proton Wira Special Edition with a 1,468cc engine.
Road tax first
LTA's formula puts road tax on the 1,468cc engine at S$665.48 a year, before any age surcharge.
The surcharge begins when a car turns more than 10 years old:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
For a model this old, read the registration date in the papers and find the band. The surcharge applies every year the car stays on the road. The road tax page shows the formula for other engine sizes.
The COE
For the Wira Special Edition, with a 1,468cc engine, the category depends on power:
- Category A: 97kW (130bhp) or less, S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round
- Category B: above that, S$130,100 in the same round
A used car comes with its COE, which ends on a fixed date. At that point the owner renews it or takes the car off the road. Ask how long is left before you agree a price. The COE page shows the latest results.
Insurance prices
The Proton Wira Special Edition price page prices this profile:
- Car: Wira Special Edition, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons
The profile is a standard one, so it uses a car 3 years old. For a car of this model's age, the 8-year-old line further down is the closer guide.
The numbers
11 insurers give an online price, and five on our panel do not have one for this model yet.
The lowest premium is S$586.41 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,007.11: S$420.70 more, or 72% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Excess
There is no zero-excess plan on this page. Excesses run from S$500 to S$800, with S$600 the most common. Read each one beside the premium.
Several of the prices are marked as estimates. Confirm those on the insurer's own site before you rely on them.
What happens when one thing changes
The price page holds the profile steady and changes one detail at a time:
- No NCD (0%): S$889.48, S$303.07 more
- 20% NCD: S$889.48, S$303.07 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$889.48, S$303.07 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$586.41, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
- A car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less
Three changes lead to one figure: the lowest price climbs 52% with no NCD, with 20% NCD, or for the younger driver. A driver aged 65 pays what the standard driver pays, though 10 insurers quote that driver against 11. The 8-year-old car is S$41.41 cheaper at the lowest price.
Each line is a lowest price. Dearer plans may move differently.
Checks for an older car's cover
- Will they cover it: some insurers stop pricing cars online past an age. Check each one for your car's actual age.
- Workshop: the prices assume an authorised workshop. Any-workshop plans can price differently.
- Other drivers: check who is allowed to drive the car and what it costs to add someone.
- NCD protection: some plans offer it as an add-on. It is not in these prices.
Six similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page shows:
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
Their average lowest price is S$735.99. The Wira Special Edition sits 20% below it at S$586.41, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. See the Proton car insurance page for other Protons.
Running costs that depend on you
- Parking: your season parking at home, and what you pay at work or when out. HDB and condo rates differ.
- Petrol: depends on how far you drive and on pump prices.
- ERP: depends on where you go and when.
- Servicing and repairs: ask for the full service history on an older car, and check how easy parts are to source.
- Depreciation: weigh the price you pay against the COE years you get to use.
