Proton Exora running costs in Singapore and its insurance prices

Proton Exora 1.6 costs in Singapore: yearly road tax, the COE category rule and car insurance from 15 insurers for one standard driver, dated.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

A Proton Exora is a used-car buy in Singapore today. The new-car list we read has none on sale. If you own one or are pricing one up, this page goes through the yearly costs with figures: road tax and car insurance, plus the COE rule. It ends with the costs that depend on your own use.

The insurance prices were read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver. They are examples, not a quote.

The version on our form

There is no list price here, since the Exora is not on the new-car list. Our quote form prices the Proton Exora 1.6, with a 1,597cc engine. All figures on this page are for it.

COE

For the Exora 1.6, with its 1,597cc engine, the COE category depends on power:

  • Category A: power of 97kW (130bhp) or less. The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001.
  • Category B: power above that. The same round closed at S$130,100.

When you buy a used Exora, its COE is already paid. The number of years left on it shapes the asking price, so ask for the COE expiry date. When a COE runs out, the owner must renew it or deregister the car. The COE page shows the latest round.

Road tax

LTA's formula sets road tax for the 1,597cc engine at S$741.14 a year, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge applies once the car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Many Exoras on the road are older cars, so check the registration date and budget for the surcharge if it applies. The road tax page covers other engine sizes.

Car insurance for the Exora

The Proton Exora price page prices this profile:

  • Car: Exora 1.6, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons

Wide choice

15 insurers give an online price for this car, and only one on our panel does not.

The lowest premium is S$622.34 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,473.96. That is S$851.62 more, or 137% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

So the same driver can pay more than twice as much for the same car, depending on the insurer. That gap is the reason to compare at each renewal.

The excess

Most plans on the page carry S$600. Others carry S$500, S$750 or S$800. A handful carry S$2,500 or S$3,000, and one has none. Check the excess beside each premium, since you pay it yourself on every claim.

How the price changes

The price page shows the lowest price with one detail changed:

  • No NCD (0%): S$922.71, S$300.37 more
  • 20% NCD: S$922.71, S$300.37 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$922.71, S$300.37 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$622.34, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$642.42, S$20.08 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$569.36, S$52.98 less

Three lines share one lowest price. With no NCD, with 20%, or as a younger driver, it rises 48%. An older driver pays the same lowest price, though one fewer insurer gives that driver a price. An 8-year-old Exora costs less to insure at the lowest price than a 3-year-old one.

These lines are the lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by other amounts.

Points to check on any plan

The premium is only one part of a plan. When you compare, look at these as well:

  • Workshop: these prices assume repairs at an authorised workshop. A plan that lets you use any workshop may cost a different amount.
  • Named drivers: check who else is allowed to drive the car, and whether a young or new driver changes the price.
  • NCD protection: some plans offer it as an add-on, which keeps your discount after a claim. It is not in these prices.
  • Estimates: a few prices on the page are marked as estimates. Confirm them on the insurer's own site, where you finish buying.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page sets six similar cars beside the Exora:

Their average lowest price is S$724.93. The Exora, at S$622.34, is 14% below it. Only one of the six, the Sienta, costs less to insure. The Proton car insurance page has the other Proton models we price.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out. Rates vary, so check your own.
  • Petrol: depends on your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on where and when you drive.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule. On a used Exora, ask for the service history and check that parts and servicing are easy to arrange.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay, the COE years left and what you sell for.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
