Kia EV6 insurance and ownership costs in Singapore, with fewer insurers to pick from

Car insurance for the Kia EV6 in Singapore: how few insurers price it online, the spread and excesses, how drivers move the price, plus road tax and COE.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Kia EV6 is an electric SUV made in Korea. For insurance, it stands out for one reason. Fewer insurers price it online than price most cars, so your choice is narrower. This review looks at what that means for the premium, then covers road tax and the COE.

Every premium here is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. It is a guide to how prices compare, not your price.

The EV6 versions

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 shows one EV6 on sale: the EV6 Electric RWD 63 kWh, with 143bhp. The list gave no price for it on that date, so there is no list price here.

Our quote form lists three EV6 versions:

  • EV6 GT-Line 77 kWh: electric
  • EV6 RWD 63 kWh: electric
  • EV6 Standard 58 kWh: electric

The insurance figures are for the EV6 GT-Line 77 kWh, the version most of our insurers price.

Here's what the standard driver pays

The Kia EV6 price page prices one case:

  • Car: EV6 GT-Line 77 kWh, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

Only 7 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$1,038.46. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,764.73. That is S$1,726.27 more, or 166% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

With so few prices to choose from, the spread is very wide. Comparing the ones that exist matters even more.

Why so few prices

Nine insurers on our panel have no online price for the EV6. Their reasons, as the price page gives them, fall into three groups:

  • No online price for this model yet: most of the nine
  • Does not list this model on its online quote: one
  • No online price for electric cars: two

Some of those insurers may still quote through other channels. But you will not see a price from them online.

The excess

On the EV6 page, excesses run from S$0 to S$3,000. The lowest premium carries an excess of S$0. The second-lowest carries S$3,000, and the third S$2,500. Others sit at S$600, S$800 or S$900.

So the two lowest premiums differ by under S$50. Yet the excess gap between them is S$3,000. Read the excess before you weigh the premium.

How the price moves

The price page shows the lowest price when one thing changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,634.96, S$596.50 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,361.97, S$323.51 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$2,119.08, S$1,080.62 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,038.84, S$0.38 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$1,030.03, S$8.43 less
  • A car 8 years old: S$1,007.07, S$31.39 less

Young drivers pay most. The 27-year-old's lowest price is 104% above the standard case. That is the biggest change on the page.

NCD counts. Each step down the NCD scale adds hundreds of dollars.

Car age and older drivers barely matter. The 65-year-old, the new car and the 8-year-old car all land within S$31.39 of the standard case.

These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans can move by more or less.

Pros and cons for insurance cost

Pros

  • Older drivers pay about the same: just S$0.38 more at 65.
  • Car age makes little difference: new or 8 years old, the lowest price barely shifts.
  • The lowest plan carries no excess: S$0 on the lowest premium.

Cons

  • Few insurers: only 7 price it online.
  • A very wide spread: up to 166% between lowest plans.
  • Costly for young drivers: S$2,119.08 at the lowest for the 27-year-old.

Against other electric cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page sets six electric cars beside the EV6:

They average S$928.51. The EV6 is 12% above that, and four of the six are cheaper to insure. Each of the six is priced by 9 to 11 insurers, more than the EV6. Other Kia models are on the Kia car insurance page.

Road tax on the motor

An electric car's road tax follows its motor power. For the 143bhp (107kW) motor of the EV6 on sale, LTA's formula gives S$1,542.60 a year, before any age surcharge. It was checked on 2026-10-19.

The surcharge on cars over 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Other motor sizes pay different sums. The road tax page has them.

The COE

The price page says a fully electric EV6 needs a Category A COE if its motor is 110kW (147bhp) or less. It needs Category B if it is more powerful. Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. The COE page has later rounds.

What to check on a plan

  • Excess: it ranges from S$0 to S$3,000 here.
  • Workshop terms: one plan on the page covers any workshop, the rest authorised.
  • Battery cover: ask how the plan treats the battery and charging cable.
  • Named drivers: a young driver on the policy lifts the price sharply.

Other costs

Charging at home or in public, HDB or condo parking, ERP, servicing and depreciation all depend on your own use. There is no single figure for them.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the EV6, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$1,542.60 a year for the 143bhp motor, before any surcharge (checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$1,038.46 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, driver aged 27: from S$2,119.08
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,634.96

The bottom line

For a settled driver, the EV6 sits a little above other electric cars on insurance. The bigger issues are choice and spread. Few insurers price it online, and their prices are far apart.
