The Kia Forte is a used-market car in Singapore today. If you are considering one, the good news on our figures is that it is cheaper to insure than every similar car we compare it with. This page sets out that and the other costs we can show: COE, road tax and how the premium changes.
The new-car list has no Forte on sale now. Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own quote will depend on your details.
Versions on the quote form
Our quote form has three entries:
- Kia Forte: 1,998cc
- Forte 1.6 SX: 1,591cc
- Forte K3 1.6: 1,591cc
The insurance figures below are for the 1,998cc Forte, the version most insurers quote. No list price is given, as the new-car list has no Forte.
The two 1.6 versions have smaller engines, so their road tax is lower. Their COE category may also differ, but the price page states it only for the 1,998cc car.
COE
For the Forte with a 1,998cc engine, the price page's COE section says it is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE.
Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. COE results change each round; the COE page has the latest. When you buy used, check the COE expiry date as well as the asking price.
Road tax
For a 1,998cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,209.76 a year, before any age surcharge. For the 1,591cc versions, use the road tax page.
The age surcharge applies past 10 years:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Insurance for the base case
The Kia Forte price page prices one driver and car:
- Car: Forte 1,998cc, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
10 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$660.69. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$1,270.04, which is S$609.35 more, or 92% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
So the dearest lowest plan is close to twice the lowest premium. Six insurers that price cars online have no online price for the Forte. For one of them, the model is not on its online quote. The rest have no online price for it yet.
Excess
The excess is your share of each claim. Of the 13 plans on this page, six carry S$600. Three ask S$800 and two S$500. One has no excess, and one asks S$2,500. Most sit between S$500 and S$800, but check for the outlier before you pick a plan on premium alone.
How the price changes
The price page reprices the car with one change:
- No NCD (0%): S$874.19, S$213.50 more
- 20% NCD: S$874.19, S$213.50 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$874.19, S$213.50 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$660.69, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$666.79, S$6.10 more
- Car 8 years old: S$604.07, S$56.62 less
No NCD is the costliest change, adding 32% to the lowest price. The younger driver lands on the same figure. The older driver pays the same as the base case.
Car age barely moves the price at the top end: a new car costs S$6.10 more. An 8-year-old Forte is cheaper to insure by S$56.62. Since any Forte you buy now is used, the 8-year-old figure may be the closer guide. These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans on the page may rise or fall by different amounts, so look at the full list for your own details.
The Forte against similar cars
The price page compares six similar cars for the same driver and car age:
- Lexus NX: S$972.39
- Lexus RX: S$972.39
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class: S$861.03
- BMW 5 Series: S$861.03
- Toyota Voxy: S$793.75
- Toyota Harrier: S$742.90
Their average lowest price is S$867.25. The Forte costs 24% less than that, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. Bear in mind that each rival is priced by 14 or 15 insurers, against 10 for the Forte. Other Kia models are on the Kia car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks models more widely. A low insurance price is one cost among several, so weigh it with road tax and the rest.
Costs that depend on the owner
These are too personal to give one figure:
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus office and town parking.
- Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
- ERP: depends on your routes and times.
- Servicing and repairs: on a used car, ask for the service record. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due over time.
- Depreciation: depends on the price paid and the COE years left.
