You will not find the Hyundai Veloster on the current new-car list. It is now a used-market car, and that changes which costs matter. The price to buy is set by the seller. What stays the same for every owner is the road tax, the COE rules and the cost of cover.
This page takes those costs one by one. The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide, not a quote.
The version priced
The quote form has the Veloster 1.6, with a 1,591cc engine. It is the version most insurers quote, so all figures here are for it.
As the Veloster has no new-car list entry, there is no list price, power figure or body type to report.
Which COE it needs
The price page sets out the rule for the 1,591cc Veloster 1.6. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. If its power is more, it needs Category B.
The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. On a used car, the time left on the COE is a large part of its value, so check the expiry date. A car near the end of its COE has to be renewed or taken off the road. The COE page shows each round.
Road tax
For a 1,591cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$737.62 a year, before any age surcharge. For cars beyond 10 years, the surcharge adds:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
If you are looking at an older Veloster, find out its registration date so you can see which step applies. The road tax page has more.
Insurance for one stated driver
The Hyundai Veloster price page prices these details:
- Car: Veloster 1.6, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
15 insurers price it, and only one insurer on the page has no online price. The lowest premium is S$721.59. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,582.32: S$860.73 more, or 119% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
That means two quotes for the same car and driver can differ by more than double. The order of the list depends only on premium. It does not weigh workshop choice, the excess or extra benefits, so read each plan's terms before you compare totals.
Look at the excess too
Excess is the amount you pay on each claim before cover starts. On this page:
- Most plans: S$600
- Some: S$500, S$750 or S$800
- A few: S$2,500 or S$3,000
- One plan: no excess, at a higher premium
Two plans close in price can have excesses thousands of dollars apart. Weigh both figures, and check whether a separate excess applies to younger or unnamed drivers.
When one thing changes
The price page reworks the lowest price with one change at a time:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,120.17, S$398.58 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,120.17, S$398.58 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,120.17, S$398.58 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$721.59, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$742.90, S$21.31 more
- A car 8 years old: S$660.69, S$60.90 less
Losing NCD raises the lowest price by 55%. A younger driver with 30% NCD reaches the same figure. An older, more experienced driver pays the same as the standard driver.
The car's own age makes a small difference. A new Veloster costs a little more to insure at this lowest price, and an 8-year-old one a little less. These are lowest prices only, and other plans may move differently.
Similar cars at the same settings
The price page lists six cars for the same driver and car age:
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mercedes-Benz C-Class: S$749.93
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
Together they average S$729.65 at their lowest. The Veloster comes in 1% below that, about level. Three of the six cost less to insure, and three cost more. Other Hyundai models are on the Hyundai car insurance page.
The costs that turn on you
These depend on how and where you drive:
- Parking: your HDB or condo season parking, plus parking at work and when you go out.
- Petrol: your mileage and the pump price on the day.
- ERP: the routes you use and the hours you travel.
- Servicing and repairs: routine servicing, then tyres, brakes, a battery and other parts as the car ages. Ask the seller for the service record.
- Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years that remain.
Summary of yearly costs we can show
