The Hyundai i30 Wagon priced on this site has a one-litre turbo engine, and that small engine sets the tone for its fixed costs. If you are looking at one, this page lays out the yearly costs we can show: road tax, the COE rule and car insurance.
Each insurance price here is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. It shows how the market prices the car. It does not tell you what you will pay.
The version on our form
There is no entry for the i30 Wagon on the new-car list on sale now. So this page shows no list price or power figure.
Our quote form prices one version: the i30 Wagon 1.0 T-GDI DCT 7-SPEED, with a 998cc engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote, and every figure below is for it.
Road tax under one litre
Engine size sets road tax, and 998cc sits near the bottom of LTA's scale. The formula gives the i30 Wagon S$390.60 a year, before any surcharge for age.
Once the car is over 10 years old, the surcharge rises in steps:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Even at the top step, this stays one of the lower road tax bills. See the road tax page for the formula.
COE category
The price page gives the rule for this car. With a 998cc engine, the i30 Wagon 1.0 T-GDI DCT 7-SPEED needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. When you buy used, the remaining COE is part of the price. The COE page carries each round's results.
Insuring the i30 Wagon
The Hyundai i30 Wagon price page asks each insurer to price the same profile:
- Car: i30 Wagon 1.0 T-GDI, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
14 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$642.42. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,374.32, which is S$731.90 more, or 114% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
More than double, then, for the same driver and car. Two insurers on our panel give no online price for the model, and one does not list it at all.
Excess ranges
The excess is your part of any claim. Most i30 Wagon plans set it at S$600, and some at S$500 or S$800. A few are far higher, at S$2,500 or S$3,000. One plan has none, S$0.
Several of the plans near the top of the list carry those higher excesses. Read across each line to see the full picture.
What a single change does
The price page alters one detail and gives the new lowest price:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,043.28, S$400.86 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,043.28, S$400.86 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,043.28, S$400.86 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$642.42, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$649.06, S$6.64 more
- A car 8 years old: S$586.41, S$56.01 less
The NCD dominates. With none, the lowest price is 62% higher. The same figure applies with 20% NCD, and for a 27-year-old on 30%.
The car's age matters much less. A new car costs only S$6.64 more at the lowest price. An 8-year-old one costs S$56.01 less. Other plans may move by different amounts, so look at more than the lowest line.
Against cars with similar engines
For the same driver and car age, the price page lines up six cars with engines of about a litre:
- Chery A1: S$774.43
- Daihatsu Copen: S$718.87
- Audi A1: S$660.69
- Audi Q2: S$660.69
- Citroen C3: S$604.07
- Chery QQ: S$545.00
Their average lowest price is S$660.63. The i30 Wagon's S$642.42 is 3% below it. Two of the six, the Citroen C3 and the Chery QQ, cost less to insure. More Hyundais are on the Hyundai car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page compares across makes.
Costs the figures leave out
Some costs turn on how you use the car. No figure fits all, but each needs a place in your budget:
- Parking: season parking at home and paid parking elsewhere. Check your own HDB block or condo's rate.
- Petrol: depends on distance and pump prices.
- ERP: depends on your routes and the time you pass each gantry.
- Servicing: a turbo engine and dual-clutch gearbox each have their own service items. Ask what the record shows.
- Depreciation: depends on the price you pay and the COE life that remains.
