Hyundai i40 Tourer road tax, COE and insurance in Singapore

What the Hyundai i40 Tourer 2.0 costs each year in Singapore: road tax, a Category B COE and dated car insurance prices from 13 insurers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

Thinking about a used Hyundai i40 Tourer, or checking whether your renewal is fair? Its 2.0 engine places it in the higher bands for road tax and COE. This page puts the costs we can show in one place, with every figure dated.

All insurance prices here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a picture of the market, not your price.

The Tourer on our form

The i40 Tourer has no entry on the new-car list on sale now, so there is no list price or power figure to give.

Our quote form prices the i40 Tourer 2.0, with a 1,999cc engine. It is the version our insurers quote. The i40 saloon has its own page with its own figures.

The road tax bill

LTA's formula sets road tax for the Tourer's 1,999cc engine at S$1,210.92 a year, before any age surcharge. That is well above what a smaller car pays, because the rate rises sharply past 1,600cc. On a car you keep for several years, that gap is paid again each year.

After the tenth year, the surcharge applies:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

So check the registration date on any Tourer you look at. The road tax page explains the formula.

COE for the Tourer

The price page puts it plainly. With a 1,999cc engine, above 1,600cc, the i40 Tourer 2.0 needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100.

A used Tourer carries its existing COE. How many years remain, and whether you mean to renew, both shape what the car is worth to you. The COE page shows every round.

Insurance at a glance

The Hyundai i40 Tourer price page asks all insurers to price one set of details:

  • Car: i40 Tourer 2.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

13 insurers price it. Three on our panel have no online price for it yet. The lowest premium is S$721.59. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,834.63, which is S$1,113.04 more, or 154% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

The lowest premium is the same as on the i40 saloon page. The field is one insurer smaller, though, so there is one fewer quote to set against the rest.

About the excess

The excess is what you pay before your insurer covers the rest of a claim. Most Tourer plans set S$600. Others set S$500, S$750 or S$800. One plan asks S$2,500, and one has no excess, S$0.

Higher-priced plans do not always carry lower excesses. Check both numbers on each line before you compare totals.

What pushes the price up or down

The price page tests one change at a time, all else held:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,029.15, up S$307.56
  • 20% NCD: S$1,029.15, up S$307.56
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,029.15, up S$307.56
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$721.59, unchanged
  • A new car, registered this year: S$742.90, up S$21.31
  • A car 8 years old: S$660.69, down S$60.90

Without NCD, the lowest price rises 43%, the biggest step here. With 20% NCD the price is the same, and a younger driver on 30% NCD pays it too.

At the other end, the older driver sees no change. An 8-year-old Tourer costs less to insure at the lowest price, and a new one a little more. Dearer plans may change in other ways, so read the whole list.

Similar cars for comparison

For the same driver and car age, the price page sets out six cars of a similar engine size:

Their average lowest price is S$867.25. At S$721.59, the Tourer is 17% below it, and none of the six costs less to insure. For other Hyundais, see the Hyundai car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page compares a wider range.

Costs that depend on how you live

These costs are too personal for one figure. Budget for them anyway:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, and paid parking wherever you go. Check your own estate's rate.
  • Petrol: set by distance and pump prices.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the hours you drive.
  • Servicing and wear: a used car will need tyres, brakes, a battery and other parts over time. Ask for its service record.
  • Depreciation: tied to the price you pay and the years left on the COE.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
