Hyundai Avante in Singapore, a breakdown of ownership and insurance costs

Hyundai Avante costs in Singapore: list prices for the hybrid, the COE, road tax and example car insurance premiums for several drivers, dated.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Hyundai Avante is a mid-size sedan from Korea, sold new today as a hybrid. Older petrol Avantes are common on the used market. Whichever you are looking at, the yearly bills follow the same pattern: road tax, insurance and the costs that depend on how you use the car.

This piece goes through those costs in turn. The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide to how prices compare, not a quote.

Versions you will come across

On the new-car list read on 2026-10-10, two Avante versions are on sale. Both are sedans made in Korea, and both are petrol-electric hybrids with a 1,580cc engine and 129bhp:

  • Avante Hybrid 1.6 S
  • Avante Hybrid 1.6 Elite

Our quote form lists four versions, most of them older petrol cars:

  • Avante 1.6 GLS: 1,591cc
  • Avante 1.6 MT ABS Airbag 2 WD 4DR: 1,591cc
  • Avante S Sunroof (A): 1,975cc
  • CN7 Avante 1.6 DOHC CVT S/R: 1,598cc

The insurance and road tax figures below are for the Avante 1.6 GLS (1,591cc), the version most insurers quote. It is not the hybrid on sale now.

New-car prices

As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included that day:

  • Hybrid 1.6 S: S$204,999
  • Hybrid 1.6 Elite: S$210,999

Each COE round can push these up or down. Treat them as a snapshot. When you get offers, line up what each one includes.

COE category

For the Avante 1.6 GLS, with a 1,591cc engine, power decides the category. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and Category B if it is more.

The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. The COE page has later rounds.

Road tax each year

For the 1.6 GLS's 1,591cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$737.62 a year, before any age surcharge.

Older Avantes are common secondhand, so the surcharge is worth knowing:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The hybrid on sale and the 1,975cc version have different engine sizes, so their road tax differs. The road tax page lets you check any engine size.

Car insurance: the standard example

The Hyundai Avante price page prices this case:

  • Car: Avante 1.6 GLS, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

Here's what the prices show. 15 insurers quote the car. The lowest premium is S$622.34 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,566.33. That is S$943.99 more, or 152% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

One insurer on the panel has no online price for the Avante yet.

What the excess adds

The excess is the part of a claim you pay yourself. Most Avante plans carry S$600, and a few S$500, S$750 or S$800. Some go up to S$2,500 or S$3,000, and one plan has none. The plan with no excess is also the highest-priced. So you are often trading a lower excess for a higher premium, or the other way round.

How changes to your profile shift the price

The price page lists the lowest premium when one thing changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$950.39, which is S$328.05 more
  • 20% NCD: S$950.39, which is S$328.05 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$950.39, which is S$328.05 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$622.34, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$642.42, which is S$20.08 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$569.36, which is S$52.98 less

The NCD makes the biggest difference: with none, the lowest price is 53% higher. A driver of 27 with 3 years' driving lands on the same figure. An older driver pays the same as the standard case. An 8-year-old Avante is the least costly to insure here. These are lowest prices only, and other plans may move in other ways.

Set against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page puts six similar cars beside it:

Their average lowest price is S$729.65. The Avante is 15% below it. Only the Toyota Sienta is lower. Other Hyundai models are on the Hyundai car insurance page.

Costs only you can estimate

A few costs swing too much from owner to owner for a single figure:

  • Parking: your HDB or condo season parking, plus parking at work and around town.
  • Petrol: your mileage times the pump price. The hybrid also draws on its electric motor.
  • ERP: depends on your daily routes and times.
  • Servicing: follow Hyundai's schedule. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due over the years. On a used car, ask for its service record.
  • Depreciation: set by what you pay and what the car sells for at the end.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Avante 1.6 GLS, with figures dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$737.62 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$622.34 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$950.39
  • Insurance, driver aged 27: from S$950.39
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$569.36

One-off costs, for reference: the hybrid from S$204,999 as listed on 2026-10-10, and a COE in the October 2026 1st round of S$130,001 (Category A) or S$130,100 (Category B).
