Honda Stream road tax, COE and insurance costs explained

How much road tax a Honda Stream 1.7 pays in Singapore, which COE it takes, and what car insurance costs for a standard driver, with dates.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

You will only find a Honda Stream on the used market now, or in the hands of someone who has kept one going. Either way, the fixed yearly costs still apply. This page sets out the ones we can show: road tax, the COE and car insurance.

Insurance figures here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They describe the market for this car. They are not the price you will be offered.

Three engine sizes on the form

The Stream has no entry on the new-car list on sale now. There is no list price or power figure to give.

Our quote form lists three versions:

  • Stream 1.7: 1,668cc
  • Stream 1.8: 1,799cc
  • Stream 2.0: 1,997cc

The insurance and road tax figures below are for the 1.7, the version most of our insurers quote. The larger engines pay more road tax.

Road tax for the 1.7

LTA's formula gives the Stream 1.7's 1,668cc engine S$822.66 a year, before any age surcharge. The 1.8 and 2.0 pay more, and the road tax page will work out the exact sums.

The age surcharge is the part to watch on a car this age. It applies once a car is over 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Check the registration date on any Stream you look at. It tells you which band applies now and when the next step comes.

The COE

The price page puts the Stream 1.7 in one category. With a 1,668cc engine, above 1,600cc, it needs a Category B COE. That round, the October 2026 1st round, closed at S$130,100.

For a used car, the COE travels with it. The years left on it, and whether you renew, shape what the car is worth to you. The COE page has each round's results.

Insurance quotes for the standard driver

The Honda Stream price page asks every insurer to price the same set-up:

  • Car: Stream 1.7, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

15 insurers price it, so there is plenty to compare. The lowest premium is S$764.82. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,385.10. That gap is S$620.28, or 81% on top. Prices include 9% GST.

Only one insurer on our panel has no online price for the Stream. That is a wide field for a car no longer sold new.

What the excess looks like

The excess is your share of a claim. On the Stream page most plans ask S$600. Others ask S$500, S$750 or S$800, and some ask S$2,500 or S$3,000. One plan has no excess, S$0.

The higher figures are several times the usual one. If you compare two quotes, the one with the lower premium may carry the far larger excess.

What happens when one detail changes

The price page tests six changes, one at a time, and gives the lowest price for each:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,017.12, S$252.30 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,017.12, S$252.30 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,017.12, S$252.30 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$764.82, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$787.96, S$23.14 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$700.28, S$64.54 less

Losing the NCD lifts the lowest price by 33%. That is the costliest change on the list. A 27-year-old with 30% NCD pays that same price.

Car age pulls the other way. An 8-year-old Stream is cheaper to insure at the lowest price than a 3-year-old one. These are lowest prices only; other plans may change by more or less.

Next to similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page compares the Stream with six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$742.85. The Stream's S$764.82 is 3% above it, and four of the six cost less to insure. The Honda car insurance page lists other Hondas, and the cheapest cars to insure page compares across makes.

Costs we leave to you

Some costs are too personal to price. They still belong in your budget:

  • Parking: season parking at home, and paid parking at work and in town. Your block's own rate matters most.
  • Petrol: rises with distance and pump prices.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the hours you drive.
  • Upkeep: an older car needs tyres, brakes, batteries and other wear parts. A clear service record helps you plan.
  • Depreciation: on a used car it rests on the price you pay and the COE years left.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,017.12

For reference, a Category B COE closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
