Honda Stepwagon running costs in Singapore, item by item

Honda Stepwagon costs in Singapore: road tax for the 1.5, the COE rule, and dated car insurance examples showing how NCD and car age move the price.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

A Honda Stepwagon on Singapore roads today is almost always a used car or one kept from new. If you are pricing one up, this page walks through the costs we can show with real figures. Those are road tax, the COE rule and car insurance.

The insurance prices are examples for a single stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not a quote for you. Change any detail, and the figure changes too.

Stepwagon versions on our form

There is no new-car list entry for the Stepwagon on sale now. So this page gives no list price and no power figure.

Our quote form carries two versions:

  • Stepwagon 1.5: 1,496cc
  • Stepwagon 2.0 G: 1,998cc

Most of our insurers quote the 1.5, so the insurance and road tax figures below are for that version.

Road tax

LTA charges road tax by engine size. The Stepwagon 1.5's 1,496cc engine comes to S$681.90 a year under the formula, before any age surcharge.

The 2.0 G has a bigger engine, so its road tax is higher. The road tax page works out any engine size.

Once a Stepwagon passes 10 years old, a surcharge is added:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

That matters if you plan to renew the COE and keep the car past its tenth year.

COE

The price page sets out the COE rule for the Stepwagon 1.5. With its 1,496cc engine, it needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. Every round brings new results, listed on the COE page.

Insurance quotes for a typical driver

The Honda Stepwagon price page prices every insurer for one person and one car:

  • Car: Stepwagon 1.5, 3 years since registration, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office-based, driving 10 to 19 years
  • NCD and claims: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Workshop and extras: authorised workshop, no add-ons

That profile draws prices from 13 insurers. The lowest premium is S$642.42. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,293.06, which is S$650.64 more. In other words, 101% on top: more than double. All figures include 9% GST.

A gap that size, for the same driver in the same car, is why comparing quotes pays.

The excess on each plan

Next to each premium sits the excess, the amount you pay on a claim before cover takes over. For the Stepwagon, most plans set S$600. Others range from S$500 to S$800. Some go much higher, at S$2,500 or S$3,000. One plan has none, S$0.

So check the excess on any low premium. A plan that costs less each year can cost more in a year you claim.

Which changes cost more, and which cost less

Keeping everything else the same, the price page changes one thing and gives the new lowest price:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,041.10, or S$398.68 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,041.10, S$398.68 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,041.10, S$398.68 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$642.42, unchanged
  • A new car, registered this year: S$660.69, S$18.27 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$586.41, S$56.01 less

The NCD carries the most weight. With none, the lowest price climbs 62%. A younger driver on 30% NCD lands on that same figure.

At the other end, an 8-year-old Stepwagon is cheaper to insure than a 3-year-old one, at the lowest price. A brand-new one costs a little more. Dearer plans may behave differently, so look past the lowest line.

Stepwagon against six similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lines up six similar cars:

Together they average S$749.19. The Stepwagon's S$642.42 is 14% below that. Only the Sienta costs less to insure, while the Corolla Altis ties with it. For more Hondas, see the Honda car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.

The costs that are up to you

Several costs depend on your own habits and where you live. They need a place in your budget even without a figure here:

  • Parking: season parking at home, and paid parking at work, malls and the roadside. Check the rate for your own block.
  • Petrol: your weekly distance and the pump price decide it.
  • ERP: set by your routes and timing.
  • Servicing and repairs: wear items such as tyres, brakes and batteries come round on any older car. Ask to see the service record.
  • Depreciation: depends on the price you pay and the years left on the COE.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,041.10
