Honda S660 ALPHA ownership costs in Singapore, from road tax to insurance

The Honda S660 ALPHA in Singapore: its small-engine road tax, the COE rule and how car insurance prices change for different drivers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Honda S660 ALPHA is a rare sight in Singapore, and that makes its costs harder to pin down. This page collects the ones we can show with figures: road tax, the COE rule and car insurance for a set driver.

Read every insurance price here as an example. It is for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own quote will move with your age, record and the car's age.

The car we priced

The S660 ALPHA has no entry on the new-car list on sale now. So there is no list price to show here, and no power figure either.

Our quote form prices the Honda S660 ALPHA with its 658cc engine. That is the version the insurers on our panel quote, and it is the car behind every figure below.

A small engine means small road tax

Road tax is worked out from engine size, so a 658cc engine sits near the bottom of the scale. LTA's formula puts the S660 ALPHA at S$324.14 a year, before any surcharge for age.

Older cars pay a surcharge on top. It starts after the tenth year:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Even with the surcharge, a small engine keeps this cost modest. For other engine sizes, see the road tax page.

COE for the S660 ALPHA

Engine size alone does not set the COE category. The price page states the rule for this car. With a 658cc engine, the S660 ALPHA needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.

The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. A used S660 ALPHA comes with its existing COE, and the years left on it feed into the asking price. The COE page lists each new round.

What insurance costs the standard driver

The Honda S660 ALPHA price page prices one driver in one car, so that the quotes line up:

  • Car: S660 ALPHA, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, nothing added

Only 9 insurers price this car. Several others have no online price for it yet, and one does not list the model at all. With a rarer model, fewer quotes are on offer, which is worth knowing before you buy.

The lowest premium is S$692.61. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,143.24. That is S$450.63 more, or 65% on top. Prices include 9% GST.

Excess levels

The excess is the amount you bear on each claim. On the S660 ALPHA page, most plans set it at S$600 and a few at S$800. One plan asks S$2,500, and one has no excess, S$0.

A small car can still bring a large repair bill. So the excess deserves as much attention as the premium. Put the two side by side when you compare.

What changes the S660 ALPHA's premium

The price page also changes one thing at a time, keeping the rest of the profile fixed. It shows the new lowest price:

  • No NCD (0%): S$970.88, which is S$278.27 more
  • 20% NCD: S$970.88, S$278.27 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$970.88, S$278.27 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$793.98, S$101.37 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$793.98, S$101.37 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$699.55, S$6.94 more

The NCD makes the biggest gap. With no discount, the lowest price rises 40%. A 27-year-old with fewer years of driving lands on that same figure.

This car differs from many others in two ways. An older driver pays more here, not the same. And a new car costs more to insure at the lowest price than a 3-year-old one. Even an 8-year-old car costs a little more.

The reason is simple: fewer insurers quote some of these cases. The lowest price for the 65-year-old and the new car comes from 8 insurers, not 9. When the lowest-priced plan drops out, the next one sets the figure.

No similar cars on the page

The price page sets no similar cars beside the S660 ALPHA, so there is no direct comparison to show here. You can still look across models on the cheapest cars to insure page. Other Hondas are on the Honda car insurance page, and the car insurance page covers the wider market.

Costs set by how you use it

Some costs vary so much from owner to owner that no single figure would help. Plan for them anyway:

  • Parking: HDB or condo season parking, and paid parking wherever you go. Your own block's rate is what counts.
  • Petrol: set by your distance and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the time of day.
  • Servicing and parts: a rare model can mean longer waits for parts. Ask about parts and service history before you buy.
  • Depreciation: tied to what you pay and how much COE life remains on the car.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Honda S660 ALPHA, figures dated as stated:

  • Road tax: S$324.14 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$692.61 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$970.88
