Honda Jade road tax, COE and insurance costs in Singapore

What a Honda Jade costs to keep on Singapore roads: road tax, the COE rules and dated car insurance examples for one standard driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 6 min read

If you are weighing up a used Honda Jade, or already keep one and want to know whether your insurance is fair, this page sets out the costs we can put a number to. It covers road tax, the COE rules and car insurance.

The insurance prices here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show how the market prices this car. They are not what you will pay, because your own details change the result.

Which Jade is priced

The Honda Jade is not on the new-car list on sale now, so there is no list price to show. Cars on the road today are bought used or kept from new.

Our quote form prices the Honda Jade 1.5, with a 1,496cc engine. It is the version most of the insurers we compare will quote, so every insurance figure below is for that car.

Road tax for the 1.5

Road tax in Singapore follows engine size. For the Jade's 1,496cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$681.90 a year, before any surcharge for age.

Because most Jades on the road are no longer new, the age surcharge matters. It applies once a car passes 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

So the yearly bill climbs each year after the tenth. If you plan to renew the COE and keep an older car, build that rise into your sums. The road tax page works out other engine sizes.

How the COE applies

Any car needs a valid Certificate of Entitlement. For a Jade bought used, the COE comes with the car, and what is left on it shapes the price you pay.

The price page states the rule for the Jade 1.5 with its 1,496cc engine. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. Those figures only matter directly if you renew a COE, but they move the used market too. See the COE page for the latest bidding results.

Insuring a Jade: the standard driver

The Honda Jade price page quotes one fixed profile, so that every insurer is compared on the same footing:

  • The car: Jade 1.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • The driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • The record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

For that profile, 12 insurers give a price. The lowest premium is S$781.58. The insurer whose lowest plan costs most asks at least S$1,270.51. That is S$488.93 more, or 63% on top of the lowest. All prices include 9% GST.

Some prices on the page are marked as estimates. A few plans are read from published tables, with the date each was read shown beside it.

Excess, the other half of the price

The excess is what you pay towards a claim before the insurer pays the rest. On the Jade page most plans set it at S$600. A few sit at S$500, S$750 or S$800. One plan carries S$2,500, and one carries none at all, S$0.

That spread is wide. A plan with a low premium and a high excess can cost you more in a year when you claim. Compare the two figures together, not the premium alone.

What moves the Jade's premium

The price page also changes one thing at a time and shows the new lowest price. Everything else stays as above:

  • No NCD (0%): S$917.90, which is S$136.32 more
  • 20% NCD: S$917.90, also S$136.32 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$917.90, S$136.32 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$781.58, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$781.58, the same
  • A car 8 years old: S$781.58, the same

The NCD is the lever here. Dropping to no discount lifts the lowest price by 17%. A younger driver with fewer years lands on the same higher figure.

Car age makes no difference to the lowest price for this model. Whether the Jade is new, 3 years old or 8 years old, the lowest quote stays at S$781.58. Dearer plans may still change with age, so check them too.

The Jade beside similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page sets six similar cars next to the Jade. Here is the lowest price for each:

The six average S$749.19. The Jade, at S$781.58, sits 4% above that. Three of the six cost less to insure for this driver. Other Honda models are on the Honda car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure list ranks models side by side.

Costs we cannot put a figure on

Several running costs depend on how and where you use the car. We give no numbers for them, but they belong in any budget:

  • Parking: HDB season parking, a condo lot, and charges at work and malls. Your own block's rate is the one to check.
  • Petrol: set by the distance you cover and the pump price on the day.
  • ERP: depends on which roads you use and when.
  • Servicing and repairs: an older car tends to need tyres, brakes, a battery and other wear parts. Ask for the service history when you buy used.
  • Depreciation: what you lose depends on the price you pay and how much COE life is left.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Honda Jade 1.5, with each figure dated:

  • Road tax: S$681.90 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$781.58 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$917.90
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$781.58

For reference, the October 2026 1st round COE closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B.
