The Honda Insight our insurers quote is the hybrid with a 1.3-litre engine. Its small engine keeps road tax towards the lower end. This page sets out that and the other yearly costs we can give figures for, with most detail on car insurance.
Every insurance price is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Treat the figures as a guide to the spread and what moves it. Your own price depends on your answers.
Which Insight
The Insight has no entry on the current new-car list, so there is no list price here. It is bought on the used market today.
Our quote form lists the Insight Hybrid 1.3 i-VTEC, with a 1,339cc engine. That is the version most of our insurers quote, and every figure below refers to it.
COE for the Insight
The price page gives the rule. With a 1,339cc engine, the Insight Hybrid 1.3 i-VTEC needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. If its power is more, it needs a Category B COE.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. For a used Insight, the COE already on the car shows how long it can stay on the road. The COE page has the latest round.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives S$589.82 a year for a 1,339cc engine, before any age surcharge.
The surcharge starts after 10 years:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
A used Insight may already be past its tenth year. If so, the surcharge adds to the base figure each year. Check the registration date before you buy. The road tax page shows how other engine sizes compare.
Insurance for one driver
The Honda Insight price page prices this profile:
- Car: Insight Hybrid 1.3 i-VTEC, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
15 insurers price the Insight on those details. Only one insurer on our panel has no online price for it. The lowest premium is S$684.56. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,347.34. That is S$662.78 more, or 97% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
That gap is close to double. The page lists 23 plans, since several insurers offer more than one. Plans differ in what they cover, so compare the details as well as the price.
What the excess means here
The excess is what you pay yourself towards each claim. Most plans on this page set S$600. Others set S$500, S$750 or S$800. A few set S$2,500 or S$3,000, and one sets none.
One of the five lowest premiums carries a S$2,500 excess. If you are weighing it against a plan with a S$600 excess, think about what a claim would cost you under each.
The price when one thing changes
The price page shows the lowest premium after a single change:
- No NCD (0%): S$989.59, S$305.03 more
- 20% NCD: S$989.59, S$305.03 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$989.59, S$305.03 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$684.56, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$706.67, S$22.11 more
- Car 8 years old: S$626.29, S$58.27 less
Losing your NCD is the costliest change, adding 45% to the lowest price. The 20% NCD and younger-driver cases land on the same figure.
Car age matters less. An 8-year-old Insight costs a little less to insure at the lowest price than a 3-year-old one. These are lowest prices only. Plans further up the list may change by other amounts, so check the plan you want.
Similar cars for comparison
For the same driver and car age, the price page sets the Insight beside six similar cars:
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- BMW X2: S$871.96
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Mercedes-Benz C-Class: S$749.93
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
Their average lowest price is S$792.17. The Insight sits 14% below it. Only the Sienta is cheaper to insure. Other Honda models are on the Honda car insurance page, and a ranking across makes is on the cars that cost least to insure page.
Costs only you can judge
Some costs vary from owner to owner, so we give no figure.
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town.
- Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price. The hybrid uses an electric motor as well as petrol.
- ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
- Servicing and repairs: routine servicing, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over the years. On a used hybrid, ask what has been checked or replaced, including the hybrid battery.
- Depreciation: depends on what you pay and how many COE years remain.
