Honda Grace in Singapore, a guide to its road tax and insurance

Running a Honda Grace 1.5 in Singapore: road tax, the COE rule for its engine and dated car insurance prices for several driver profiles.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

You will not find the Honda Grace on the current new-car list, but it is still a car many owners here insure each year. If you have one, or you are looking at one second-hand, this page sets out its yearly costs. It covers road tax, the COE rule and car insurance.

Insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide to the range and what shifts it. Your own premium depends on your details.

The Grace we price

Our quote form lists the Honda Grace 1.5, with a 1,496cc engine. That is the version most of our insurers quote, and every figure below is for it. With no new-car listing, there is no list price.

How the COE rule works for it

The price page sets out the rule. With a 1,496cc engine, the Grace 1.5 needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. When you buy used, you take on the COE already on the car. Check how many years it has left, since that limits how long you can keep the car. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives S$681.90 a year for the Grace's 1,496cc engine, before any age surcharge.

Cars more than 10 years old pay a surcharge:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The registration date on the log card tells you which band applies. The road tax page lists other engine sizes for comparison.

What the price page shows for insurance

The Honda Grace price page prices this profile:

  • Car: Grace 1.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

15 insurers price the Grace, and only one on our panel has no online price for it. The lowest premium is S$625.90. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,248.92. That is S$623.02 more, or 100% on top. In other words, it costs double. All prices include 9% GST.

Plans on the page are not all alike. Some insurers sell a basic plan and a fuller one, and the plan names show how they differ. Before you compare prices, check that the plans cover what you need.

The excess on each plan

The excess is the part of each claim you pay. Most plans here set S$600, others S$500, S$750 or S$800, and one has none. A few set S$2,500 or S$3,000.

A plan near the top of the price list sets S$2,500. A low premium with a high excess can cost you more in a year with a claim. So read the two figures side by side.

How the lowest price changes

The price page shows the lowest premium when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,003.16, S$377.26 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,003.16, S$377.26 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,003.16, S$377.26 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$642.42, S$16.52 more
  • New car, registered this year: S$660.69, S$34.79 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$586.41, S$39.49 less

Losing your NCD costs the most. It lifts the lowest price by 60%. A 20% NCD and the younger driver both arrive at the same higher figure.

For the Grace, the lowest price rises a little for the older driver. The car's age matters too: a newer one costs more to insure at the lowest price, and an 8-year-old one less. These figures follow the lowest plan only. Other plans may move by different amounts.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page sets the Grace beside six similar cars:

Their average lowest price is S$749.19. The Grace sits 16% below it. Only the Sienta is cheaper to insure. More Honda models are on the Honda car insurance page, and the cars that cost least to insure are ranked on their own page.

Costs we leave to you

These depend on your own use, so there is no fixed figure.

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town.
  • Petrol: depends on your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and timings.
  • Servicing and repairs: routine servicing, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over time. On a used car, ask for its service record.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay and how many COE years remain.
