The Honda Freed in Singapore, what it costs to buy, tax and insure

Honda Freed costs in Singapore, cost by cost: list prices, the COE rule, road tax and dated insurance premiums for a range of drivers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Honda Freed is a small seven-seat MPV with plenty of versions on sale, petrol and hybrid. That choice affects what you pay up front, and a little of what you pay each year. Below, each cost has its own section and a dated figure where we have one.

Premiums quoted here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own price depends on your answers.

Seven versions on the list

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has seven Freed versions, all MPVs made in Japan. Prices are as listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included that day:

  • Freed 2020 1.5 G LED Honda Sensing Power Doors 7-Seater: petrol, 1,496cc, 124bhp, S$183,900
  • Freed 1.5 AIR EX 7-Seater: petrol, 1,496cc, 117bhp, S$194,200
  • Freed Hybrid 2020 1.5 G Honda Sensing Dual Power Doors 7-Seater: petrol-electric, 1,496cc, 135bhp, S$196,000
  • Freed Hybrid 1.5 AIR EX e:HEV: petrol-electric, 1,496cc, S$202,500
  • Freed Hybrid 1.5 HS7 e:HEV: petrol-electric, 1,498cc, 130bhp, S$203,899
  • Freed Hybrid 1.5 HE7 e:HEV: petrol-electric, 1,498cc, 130bhp, S$207,899
  • Freed Hybrid 1.5 AIR e:HEV: petrol-electric, 1,496cc, S$228,800

List prices follow COE, so a dealer's figure on the day may differ. Compare what each offer includes, not just the total.

Our quote form has two versions: the Honda Freed (1,496cc) and the Freed Hybrid 1.5 (1,496cc). The insurance prices below are for the Honda Freed (1,496cc).

Getting a COE

The price page gives the rule for the 1,496cc Freed. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. If its power is more, it needs a Category B COE.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. The COE page tracks each new round.

Yearly road tax

For the 1,496cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$681.90 a year, before any surcharge. The hybrids with a 1,498cc engine sit very close, and the road tax page shows the exact sum for any size.

A surcharge applies as the car ages past 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Car insurance on today's examples

The Honda Freed price page is built around one set of answers:

  • Car: Honda Freed (1,496cc), 3 years old, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no extras

With those answers, 14 insurers price the Freed. The lowest premium is S$642.42. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,270.51, which is S$628.09 more, or 98% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Two insurers on our panel give no online price for it. For one of them, the online quote lists the model only with another engine or fuel type, so its price would be for a different car.

The excess, workshop and plan type

  • Excess: most plans ask S$600; the range is S$0 to S$2,500.
  • Workshop: the lowest plan allows any workshop or authorised workshops; most others use authorised workshops.
  • Plan type: the second-lowest price is for a plan described as collision only, so read what it covers.

What raises or lowers the premium

The price page changes one detail at a time and shows the new lowest price:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,065.51, S$423.09 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,065.51, S$423.09 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,065.51, S$423.09 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$642.42, the same, 13 insurers pricing
  • A new car, registered this year: S$660.69, S$18.27 more, 13 insurers pricing
  • A car 8 years old: S$586.41, S$56.01 less

For the Freed, the NCD carries a lot of weight. Without it, the lowest price is 66% higher. A young driver with 30% NCD pays the same lowest price as a driver with none.

The car's age matters far less. A new Freed costs S$18.27 more at the lowest price, and an 8-year-old one S$56.01 less. These are lowest prices; other plans may shift by different amounts.

Compared with similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page sets six similar cars beside the Freed:

Their average lowest price is S$749.19. The Freed is 14% below that. One of the six, the Toyota Sienta, is cheaper to insure, and the Corolla Altis matches it. Other Honda models are on the Honda car insurance page.

The costs we cannot put a figure on

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Fuel: depends on your mileage and pump prices, and on whether you pick a petrol or hybrid version.
  • ERP: depends on the routes and hours you drive.
  • Servicing: follow Honda's schedule. Tyres, brakes and a battery come up in time. Ask what the warranty covers.
  • Depreciation: what the car loses over its COE life depends on what you pay and what it fetches later.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Honda Freed (1,496cc), dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$681.90 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$642.42 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,065.51
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$586.41

For reference, the one-off costs: list prices from S$183,900 as listed on 2026-10-10, and a COE in the October 2026 1st round of S$130,001 (Category A) or S$130,100 (Category B).
