The Kia Stonic 1.0 has two sides to its running costs in Singapore. Its small engine keeps road tax low. Its insurance, though, swings hard with the driver's no-claim discount. This page sets out both, with the COE section from our price page.
There is no Stonic on the new-car list now, so you would be buying used. All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide, not a quote.
The version on our form
Our quote form lists one version:
- Stonic 1.0: 998cc
There is no list price, since the model has no new-car list entry. Every figure below is for the 1.0, so check that the car you are looking at has the same 998cc engine.
COE
For the Stonic 1.0, with a 998cc engine, the category depends on power. The price page's COE section says it needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These change every round; see the COE page for the latest. On a used car, the COE years remaining are a big part of what you pay.
Road tax
For a 998cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$390.60 a year, before any age surcharge. That is one of the lower road tax bills a car can have.
The surcharge, once the car passes 10 years:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The road tax page shows how engine size sets the base sum.
Insurance for the standard driver
The Kia Stonic price page prices this case:
- Car: Stonic 1.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
15 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$586.41. The insurer with the dearest lowest plan asks at least S$1,258.90. That is S$672.49 more, or 115% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Only one insurer that prices cars online has no online price for the Stonic yet. So the comparison covers nearly the whole market.
The excess
The excess is what you pay yourself on each claim. Of the 23 plans on this page, ten carry S$600. Three ask S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three ask S$2,500, one asks S$3,000, and one plan has none.
With a lowest premium under S$600, a S$2,500 or S$3,000 excess is large by comparison. Check it before you choose.
The NCD is the big lever
The price page reprices the car with one change:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,258.90, S$672.49 more
- 20% NCD: S$987.63, S$401.22 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,103.15, S$516.74 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$586.41, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
- Car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less
Without an NCD, the lowest price is 115% higher, more than double the base case. Even 20% NCD leaves it S$401.22 higher. The younger driver with 30% NCD pays S$1,103.15.
So on the Stonic, a driver with a full discount pays far less than one starting out. The car's age matters much less: a new car adds S$17.66, and an 8-year-old car saves S$41.41. The 65-year-old pays the same as the 40-year-old.
If you are new to driving, or have lost your NCD after a claim, the base-case price will not be yours. Get quotes with your real details. These are lowest prices only, and other plans may move by different amounts.

- Audi Q2: S$660.69

Their average lowest price is S$660.63, and the Stonic costs 11% less. Only the Chery QQ is cheaper to insure. Two of the six, the Chery A1 and the Daihatsu Copen, are priced by just 7 insurers each. Other Kia models are on the Kia car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across the market.
Costs we leave to you

- Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price.
- ERP: depends on your routes and times.
- Servicing and repairs: on a used car, ask for the service record and what is due.
