Here is what you'll pay to keep a Kia Sportage on the road, as far as the figures go. The headline is insurance. Fewer insurers price this car online than many others, and the price for a young driver is more than double the standard one.
This guide covers the COE, road tax and insurance, then the costs that turn on how you use the car. The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your quote will follow your own details.
The version in these figures
The new-car list we read has no Sportage on sale, so there are no list prices here. Most Sportage buyers will be looking at used cars.
Our quote form holds one Sportage entry, a 2.0 with a 1,998cc engine (it appears on the form as the SPRTage 2.0). Every figure below is for that version. Check the engine size of any car you view, since road tax and the COE category both depend on it.
COE
The price page states it directly. With a 1,998cc engine, above 1,600cc, the Sportage 2.0 needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100.
On a used car, the COE is already paid. What matters is how many years it has left, since that is how long the car can stay on the road before renewal. The COE page has the latest round's results.
Road tax
For the 1,998cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,209.76 a year, before any age surcharge.
After 10 years, the surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The road tax page covers other engine sizes.
Here's what the standard driver pays
The Kia Sportage price page prices this profile:
- Car: Sportage 2.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
8 insurers price it for that profile. The lowest is S$882.31 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,270.04, which is S$387.73 more, or 44% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Eight insurers on our panel have no online price for the Sportage. So the choice online is narrower than for many common models. One of them says it does not list this model on its online quote at all.
Excess
The excess is the share of each claim you pay first. The plans on this page range from S$0 to S$3,000. Several sit at S$600, and others at S$2,500 or S$3,000. A cheap premium with a S$3,000 excess is a different deal from a dearer one at S$600.
How the price changes
This is where the Sportage stands apart. The price page gives these lowest prices when one thing changes:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,440.20, S$557.89 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,202.73, S$320.42 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,804.46, S$922.15 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$917.91, S$35.60 more
- New car, registered this year: S$908.86, S$26.55 more
- Car 8 years old: S$839.82, S$42.49 less
The young driver case costs most, at 105% more than the standard driver. That is more than double. NCD also matters a lot here, with each step down in discount adding a clear sum. A driver of 65 pays only a little more. These are lowest prices only; dearer plans may move by other amounts.
Pros and cons on insurance
What works in its favour
- For an experienced driver with full NCD, the lowest price sits close to similar cars.
- Car age moves the price only a little.
- An older, experienced driver pays close to the standard figure.
What counts against it
- Only 8 insurers price it online.
- A young driver with little experience pays more than double.
- Losing your NCD lifts the lowest price by S$557.89.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six cars:
- Lexus NX: S$972.39
- Lexus RX: S$972.39
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class: S$861.03
- BMW 5 Series: S$861.03
- Toyota Voxy: S$793.75
- Toyota Harrier: S$742.90
Their average lowest price is S$867.25. The Sportage is 2% above it, and four of the six cost less to insure. Other Kia models are on the Kia car insurance page.
What to check on a plan
- Named drivers: if a younger person will drive, get the quote with them on it. The jump can be large.
- NCD protection: see whether the plan offers it and at what price.
- Workshop terms: these figures assume an authorised workshop.
- Excess: read it next to the premium, not after.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: your HDB block or condo season rate, plus work and mall parking.
- Petrol: follows your distance and the pump price.
- ERP: depends on your routes and times.
- Servicing and wear: tyres, brakes and a battery come due over the years, more so on an older car.
- Depreciation: depends on what you pay and how much COE life is left.
The bottom line
The yearly figures we can show for the Sportage 2.0, dated as shown:

- Insurance, standard driver: from S$882.31 a year (20 October 2026)
- Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,440.20
- Insurance, driver aged 27: from S$1,804.46
- Insurance, car 8 years old: from S$839.82
For reference, a Category B COE closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
