Perodua Myvi in Singapore, what it costs to tax and insure

The Perodua Myvi 1.0 in Singapore: road tax, COE category and dated insurance prices from nine insurers, with seven more giving no online price.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Perodua Myvi is a small hatchback with low running costs on paper. Road tax on the 1.0 is S$388.84 a year, and the lowest insurance premium for an experienced driver is modest. The catch is choice: seven insurers on our panel have no online price for it, so there are fewer quotes to compare than for many small cars. This guide sets out the figures.

All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not your quote.

Myvi versions

Our quote form lists three:

  • Myvi 1.0: 989cc
  • Myvi 1.3: 1,298cc
  • Myvi 1.5: 1,496cc

The price page prices the Myvi 1.0, the version most insurers quote. The new-car list read for this guide has no Myvi on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here.

COE

For the Myvi 1.0, with its 989cc engine, the category depends on power:

  • Category A: 97kW (130bhp) or less. S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round.
  • Category B: more than that. S$130,100 in the same round.

On a used Myvi, the COE stays with the car until it expires. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 989cc engine S$388.84 a year before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.

The surcharge for older cars:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The 1.3 and 1.5 have bigger engines and pay more. The road tax page has their figures.

Here's what insurance costs

The Perodua Myvi price page prices this case:

  • Car: Myvi 1.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

9 insurers price it, across 14 plans. The lowest premium is S$569.36, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,136.79. That is S$567.43 more, or 100% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

So the dearest insurer's lowest plan costs twice the lowest. Seven insurers on the panel have no online price for the Myvi. With a narrower field, each quote you get matters more.

Excess

Six of the 14 plans carry an S$600 excess. One carries S$500 and three S$800. Two carry S$2,500, one S$3,000 and one none.

The second-lowest premium, S$650.45, carries the S$500 excess. Three plans are estimates, which can change once your details are in.

How the price changes

The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:

  • No NCD (0%): S$892.69, S$323.33 more
  • 20% NCD: S$892.69, S$323.33 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$892.69, S$323.33 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$569.36, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$586.41, S$17.05 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$24.36 less

NCD: with none, the lowest price is 57% higher. It is the change that costs most.

Young driver: aged 27 with 30% NCD, the same as the no-NCD figure.

Older driver: aged 65 with a long record, no change, but only eight insurers quote that case.

Car age: an 8-year-old Myvi costs a little less to insure at the lowest price, and a new one a little more.

These are lowest prices only. With only nine insurers, dearer plans can move quite differently.

Against similar small cars

The price page compares six cars with similar engines, same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$660.63. The Myvi is 14% below it. Only one of the six, the Chery QQ, is cheaper to insure. Other Perodua models are on the Perodua car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page lists more.

Pros and cons on insurance cost

  • For: below five of six similar cars at the lowest price
  • For: low road tax on the 1.0
  • Against: only nine insurers price it online
  • Against: losing your NCD adds S$323.33 at the lowest price

Costs that depend on you

These vary from owner to owner:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking elsewhere
  • Petrol: your mileage and the pump price
  • ERP: your routes and travel times
  • Servicing and parts: ask how easily parts can be found, and for the service record
  • Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left

Before you buy

  • Which version: the 1.3 and 1.5 pay more road tax
  • COE expiry date: and the years left
  • Registration date: it sets the road tax surcharge band
  • Every quote you can get: with seven insurers not pricing it online, compare all nine that do
