Perodua Axia in Singapore, low road tax and steady insurance costs

The Perodua Axia 1.0 in Singapore: road tax of S$390.60 a year, its COE category and dated insurance prices that do not move with the car's age.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Perodua Axia is a small car with a 998cc engine. Its road tax is low. For an experienced driver, its lowest insurance price is low and stays the same whatever the car's age. This guide sets out the figures, with the COE category.

All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not your quote.

The Axia on our form

Our quote form prices the Axia 1.0, with a 998cc engine. It is the version most insurers quote, and the only one this guide covers.

The new-car list read for this guide has no Axia on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here.

COE

For the Axia 1.0, with its 998cc engine, the category depends on power:

  • Category A: if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less
  • Category B: if it is more

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. The COE page has the latest. On a used Axia, the existing COE runs until it expires. Check the expiry date before you agree a price, since it sets how long you can keep the car.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 998cc engine S$390.60 a year before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.

Older cars pay a surcharge:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

On a base this low, even the top surcharge adds a fairly small sum. The road tax page has the formula.

Here's what insurance costs

The Perodua Axia price page prices this case:

  • Car: Axia 1.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

12 insurers price it, across 19 plans. The lowest premium is S$545.00, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,048.70. That is S$503.70 more, or 92% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Four insurers on the panel have no online price for the Axia. The other 12 still give a wide range, so it helps to get several quotes before you settle on one plan.

Excess

Ten of the 19 plans carry an S$600 excess. One carries S$500 and three S$800. Three carry S$2,500, one S$3,000 and one none.

The second-lowest premium, S$650.45, carries an S$500 excess. The third, S$699.63, carries S$2,500. So the plans near the bottom of the range differ a lot on excess. Three plans are estimates.

How the price changes

The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:

  • No NCD (0%): S$868.93, S$323.93 more
  • 20% NCD: S$784.56, S$239.56 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$868.93, S$323.93 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$545.00, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$545.00, the same
  • Car 8 years old: S$545.00, the same

NCD is the only thing here that moves the lowest price. With none, it is 59% higher. With 20%, it is S$239.56 higher.

A 27-year-old with 30% NCD pays the no-NCD figure.

Driver age and car age make no difference at the lowest price. A 65-year-old, a new car and an 8-year-old car all start at S$545.00. One fewer insurer quotes the older driver and the new car.

These are lowest prices only.

Against similar small cars

The price page compares six cars with similar engines, same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$660.63. The Axia is 18% below it, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Chery QQ matches it. Other Perodua models are on the Perodua car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page lists more.

Pros and cons on insurance cost

  • For: none of six similar cars is cheaper to insure
  • For: the lowest price holds for older drivers and older cars
  • Against: losing your NCD adds S$323.93 at the lowest price
  • Against: four insurers have no online price

Costs that depend on you

These vary from owner to owner:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town
  • Petrol: your mileage and the pump price
  • ERP: your routes and the times you drive
  • Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and battery over the years
  • Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left

Before you buy

  • COE expiry date: and the years left
  • Registration date: it sets the road tax surcharge band
  • Service history: what has been done and what is due next
  • Quotes with your own NCD: it is what moves this car's price
