The MINI Countryman now comes with petrol or electric power. The new-car list files it as an SUV made in Germany. This guide sets out what it costs in Singapore: the list prices, the COE, road tax and car insurance. The insurance figures are for an older petrol version, as most insurers quote that one.
Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They help you compare. They are not a quote.
Versions
The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has three versions:
- Countryman Electric E 66.5 kWh: electric, 201bhp
- Countryman Electric SE ALL4 66.5 kWh: electric, 308bhp
- Countryman S ALL4 2.0: petrol, 1,998cc, 215bhp
Our quote form lists nine versions. They run from the 1,499cc Cooper Countryman through 1,598cc, 1,995cc and 1,998cc cars to the two electric ones. The figures below are for the MINI Cooper Countryman (1,499cc), the version most of our insurers quote.
List prices
As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included that day:
- Electric E: S$294,888
- Electric SE ALL4: S$312,888
- S ALL4 2.0: S$319,888
List prices move with every COE round. Compare what each dealer's offer includes.
COE
For the Cooper Countryman's 1,499cc engine, the category turns on power. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. The price page does not set out a category for the newer versions, so check with the dealer. The COE page has the latest results.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the 1,499cc engine S$683.66 a year, before any age surcharge.
Past 10 years, the surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The 1,998cc and electric versions pay different road tax. Look them up on the road tax page.
Insurance: a very wide spread
The MINI Countryman price page prices this example:
- Car: MINI Cooper Countryman, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
13 insurers price it, and only three on our panel do not. The lowest premium is S$740.97 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,751.52. That is S$2,010.55 more, or 271% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
So the top lowest plan costs well over three times the bottom one. Most plans sit far below the top, though. Some prices shown are estimates.
Excess
The lowest plan carries a S$600 excess. Others carry S$500, S$750 or S$800. One has none. Several ask S$2,500 or S$3,000. The second-lowest plan asks S$2,500, so check that before you compare it with the lowest.
Plan levels and dates
Several insurers list two or three plans each. The fuller ones may add cover. Each price shows the date it was read; the lowest was read more than a week ago.
How the price moves
The lowest price with one detail changed:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,232.11, S$491.14 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,232.11, S$491.14 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,232.11, S$491.14 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$906.34, S$165.37 more
- A new car, registered this year: S$800.30, S$59.33 more
- A car 8 years old: S$725.12, S$15.85 less
Without the NCD, the lowest price is 66% higher. The younger driver lands on the same figure. The older driver pays a fair bit more. A new car costs more to insure than a 3-year-old one. These are lowest prices only; other plans may move by different sums.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age:
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
Their average lowest price is S$735.99. The Countryman is 1% above that, so about level. Three of the six cost less to insure. The MINI car insurance page lists other MINIs.
Picking a version
The insurance figures here are for the older 1,499cc petrol car. The electric and 1,998cc versions differ in power and price, so their premiums may differ too. Price the exact version on the quote form.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: season parking at home and work, plus other stops.
- Petrol or charging: the petrol versions use petrol; the electric ones need charging at home or at public points.
- ERP: your routes and timing.
- Servicing: follow the maker's schedule. Ask what the warranty covers, including the battery on the electric versions.
- Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later.
