The electric MG ZS is not on the new-car list now, so in Singapore it is a used buy. For this car, the figures we can show centre on insurance. They show something unusual: the lowest premium barely moves when the driver or the car changes. This guide explains what the price page shows, then covers the COE rule, road tax and the costs that depend on you.
Every insurance price here is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. It shows how prices compare. It is not a quote.
What we can show
The new-car list has no entry for the MG ZS on sale now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type. There is also no road tax figure for it here.
Our quote form prices the MG ZS, electric, the version most of our insurers quote.
The COE rule
For an electric car, the category turns on motor power. A fully electric MG ZS needs a Category A COE if its motor is 110kW (147bhp) or less. If it is more powerful, it needs a Category B COE.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. On a used car, the COE is already paid, and the years left on it shape the price. The COE page has the latest results.
Road tax
Road tax for an electric car is worked out from motor power, not engine size. Find the motor power on the car's log card and look up the figure on the road tax page.
The age surcharge applies to electric cars as well:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Car insurance for the example driver
The MG ZS price page prices this example:
- Car: MG ZS electric, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
9 insurers price it. Seven on our panel do not. Two of those do not quote electric cars online, and one prices only repairs at any workshop.
The lowest premium is S$1,217.88 a year. It is marked as an estimate, so confirm it with the insurer. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,311.38. That is S$1,093.50 more, or 90% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
So for the same car and driver, one insurer's lowest plan costs close to double another's.
Excess
The lowest plan has a S$800 excess. Others set S$600, and one electric-car plan that allows any workshop sets S$900. One plan has none, and the dearest asks S$2,500. Weigh the excess with each premium, since you pay it first on any claim.
Electric-car plans
Several plans on the page are made for electric cars. Check what they cover, such as the battery and charging equipment.
A price that hardly moves
The price page changes one detail at a time:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,217.88, the same
- 20% NCD: S$1,217.88, the same
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,217.88, the same
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,217.88, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$1,217.88, the same
- A car 8 years old: S$1,201.94, S$15.94 less
On most cars, losing the NCD or being a younger driver raises the lowest price a lot. Here, the lowest price stays the same in every case but one. That holds for the lowest price only. The other plans on the page will move in their own ways, so a younger driver or one without NCD should still price their own details.
Against other electric cars
For the same driver and car age:
- BYD Atto 3: S$789.73
- BYD M6: S$799.24
- Tesla Model 3: S$1,093.31
- Tesla Model Y: S$1,147.48
- Hyundai Ioniq 5: S$954.21
- BYD Dolphin: S$787.08
Their average lowest price is S$928.51. The MG ZS is 31% above that, and all six cost less to insure for this driver. The MG car insurance page has the other MG models.
Before you buy one used
- Motor power: it sets the COE category and the road tax. Check it on the log card.
- Battery warranty: ask what is left of it and what it covers.
- COE years left: they shape the price and how long you can keep the car.
- Your own quote: the lowest plan here may not suit your details or your claims plans.
Costs that depend on you
- Charging: the cost depends on where you charge and how far you drive. Check what your home car park offers.
- Parking: season parking at home and work, plus other stops.
- ERP: your routes and timing.
- Servicing: follow the maker's schedule. Tyres and brakes still wear on an electric car.
- Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later.
