Questions people ask

Which home insurance is best for an HDB flat?

This month, Income's Enhanced Home Insurance, HDB flat, without building cover (for owners whose HDB fire insurance covers the flat; contents and S$60,000 renovations) scores highest for a four-room flat's owner with S$60,000 of belongings, at S$71.22 a year. The score weighs price, the cover that differs between plans and the excess.

Do I need home insurance if I have HDB fire insurance?

HDB fire insurance covers the flat's structure and the fittings HDB installed, and is compulsory with an HDB loan. It does not cover your renovations, your belongings or your liability to neighbours; home insurance does.

What should an HDB home policy cover?

Your renovations (flooring, built-ins, kitchen), your belongings against fire, water damage and theft, personal liability if your flat damages a neighbour's, and somewhere to stay if the flat becomes unliveable.

How much does it cost?

From S$67.85 a year today for this example, at Sompo. More belongings or renovations to insure raise the price.
