The Daihatsu Materia is a 1.5-litre model that has left the new-car list. If you own one or are pricing a used one, this page puts the yearly costs side by side. On insurance, at least, it compares well with similar cars.
All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not a quote.
The car priced
The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now, so there is no list price, power or body type here.
Our quote form prices the Daihatsu Materia 1.5, with a 1,493cc engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote.
Car insurance
The standard driver
The Daihatsu Materia price page prices:
- Car: Materia 1.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
What 15 insurers ask
15 insurers price the Materia for that driver. The lowest premium is S$586.41 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,207.38. That is S$620.97 more, or 106% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Only one insurer on our panel has no online price for this model. That gives you plenty of prices to compare.
The excess
Most plans set a S$600 excess. Three set S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three set S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess.
For an older car, the higher excesses could cover much of a repair. Check them as closely as the premium.
How the price changes
The price page shows the lowest price when one detail differs:
- No NCD (0%): S$907.92, S$321.51 more
- 20% NCD: S$907.92, S$321.51 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$907.92, S$321.51 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$586.41, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
- A car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less
Losing the NCD adds 55% at the lowest price. A 20% NCD and a younger driver reach the same figure.
The older driver pays the same as the 40-year-old. An 8-year-old Materia is a little cheaper to insure. Most cars for sale will be older still.
These are lowest prices. Other plans may move by more or less.
A claim can reduce your NCD, and the higher premium then lasts until the discount is rebuilt. So the NCD lines above are a guide to what a claim might cost you over the next few years.
The COE
With a 1,493cc engine, the Materia 1.5 needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These change every round; the COE page has the latest.
On a used Materia, the years left on the COE count most.
Road tax
For the 1,493cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$680.14 a year. That was checked on 2026-10-19 and is before any age surcharge.
From the tenth year, older cars pay more:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The road tax page has sums for other engines.
Comparing quotes
Along with the premium, look at:
- Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. Plans that allow any workshop may differ.
- Named drivers: an extra, younger driver can lift the price.
- NCD protection: an optional extra some plans offer.
- Excess: your share of each claim.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
Their average is S$735.99. The Materia is 20% below that, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Toyota Sienta comes closest.
Other Daihatsu models are on the Daihatsu car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.
Before you buy
For a used Materia, confirm:
- COE expiry: how many years of use remain.
- Road tax: when it falls due, and whether a surcharge applies.
- Your own quote: for this car and your details.
- Service record: what has been replaced and what may be due soon, since parts for an older car can take time to source.
Costs that depend on you
These have no single figure:
- Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus elsewhere.
- Petrol: your distance and the pump price.
- ERP: your routes and hours.
- Parts and servicing: for an older car, ask how parts are sourced and who services it. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due.
- Depreciation: for a used car, mostly the COE years left.
