BYD Atto 3 in Singapore, the yearly bills and insurance prices

The BYD Atto 3 electric SUV in Singapore: list price, COE rule, electric road tax and dated car insurance prices for different drivers.

20 Oct 2026 · 6 min read

Going electric changes some of the sums you face as a car owner in Singapore. Road tax works on motor power, not engine size. Insurance prices for electric cars also behave a little differently. This guide sets out what the BYD Atto 3 costs on each count we have figures for.

All insurance prices here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own premium depends on your details.

The car on sale today

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has one version of the Atto 3. It is an electric SUV made in China:

  • BYD Atto 3 Electric Evo 60.48 kWh: electric, 134bhp

On our quote form it appears simply as the BYD ATTO 3, and that is the version priced below.

Price as listed

The Atto 3 Electric Evo was listed at S$184,888 as listed on 2026-10-10. That price included COE as listed that day.

COE moves every bidding round, and list prices follow it. A dealer's figure on the day you buy may be higher or lower. Ask what the price includes, such as registration and any home charger, before you compare offers.

The COE rule for electric cars

An electric car's COE category turns on motor power, not engine size. The price page puts it this way. A fully electric Atto 3 needs a Category A COE if its motor is 110kW (147bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if it is more powerful.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. The COE page shows the latest round.

Road tax on a 134bhp motor

For an electric car, LTA's formula uses the motor's power. For the Atto 3's 134bhp (100kW) motor, road tax comes to S$1,501.56 a year, before any age surcharge.

That surcharge applies once a car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

You can work out road tax for other cars on the road tax page.

Car insurance: what the standard driver pays

The BYD Atto 3 price page prices one driver and one car:

  • Car: BYD ATTO 3, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

Here is the spread. 11 insurers price this car. The lowest premium is S$789.73. The insurer whose lowest plan is the most expensive asks at least S$2,072.07. That is S$1,282.34 more, or 162% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That is a wide range for the same car and the same driver. It is the clearest reason to compare before you renew.

Read the plan names. The lowest price on the page is for a plan described as collision only. A plan from the same insurer described as complete costs S$1,037.27. Check what each plan covers, not only the premium.

Look at the excess. Most plans carry S$600. The range goes from S$0 to S$3,000, and one plan in the list is for any workshop with a S$900 excess. A low premium paired with a high excess can cost more if you claim.

Not everyone quotes it online. Five insurers on our panel give no online price for the Atto 3. Some do not price electric cars online at all. One prices only repairs at any workshop.

How the price changes with the driver and the car

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,207.68, S$417.95 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,207.68, S$417.95 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,207.68, S$417.95 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$968.84, S$179.11 more, with 10 insurers pricing
  • A new car, registered this year: S$1,207.68, S$417.95 more, with 10 insurers pricing
  • A car 8 years old: S$776.18, S$13.55 less

The jump with no NCD is large: the lowest price rises by 53%. A newer car costs the same as no NCD at the lowest price. An older driver also pays more here, which is not true of every car.

These are lowest prices only. Other plans may move by different amounts.

The pros and cons for insurance cost

In its favour

  • The lowest price for the standard driver sits below every similar electric car on the price page.
  • An 8-year-old Atto 3 costs a little less to insure at the lowest price.

Against it

  • The spread between insurers is very wide.
  • Losing your NCD lifts the lowest price by more than half.
  • A newer car and an older driver both pay more at the lowest price.

Against other electric cars

The price page compares six similar electric cars for the same driver and car age. Here is each one's lowest price:

Their average lowest price is S$1,124.10. The Atto 3 costs 30% less than that, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. Other BYD models are on the BYD car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Charging: what you pay depends on where you charge, at home, at your condo or at public chargers, and how far you drive.
  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when you go out.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and times.
  • Servicing and tyres: follow the maker's schedule. Ask what the battery warranty covers and for how long.
  • Depreciation: what the car loses over its COE life depends on the price you pay and what it fetches later.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the BYD Atto 3, figures dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$1,501.56 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$789.73 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,207.68
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$776.18

One-off costs for reference: a list price of S$184,888 as listed on 2026-10-10. The October 2026 1st round COE was S$130,001 for Category A or S$130,100 for Category B.

The bottom line

On these examples, the Atto 3 is one of the lower-cost electric cars to insure for the standard driver. Its road tax reflects its motor power. The spread between insurers is wide, so the price you get depends a great deal on where you look.
