BYD Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid costs in Singapore, with insurance

The BYD Sealion 6 DM-i in Singapore: list price as listed on 2026-10-10, COE, road tax and dated car insurance for one stated driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The BYD Sealion 6 is a plug-in hybrid SUV, pairing a 1.5-litre petrol engine with electric drive. This page goes through what it costs to buy and keep, as far as the figures allow.

Every insurance price is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. It is a guide, not a quote, and your own price depends on your details.

The version on sale

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has one version on sale, an SUV made in China:

  • Sealion 6 Plug-in Hybrid 1.5 DM-i: petrol-electric, 1,498cc, 215bhp

Our quote form prices the Sealion 6 1.5 DM-i with the same 1,498cc engine. That is the version most of our insurers quote.

List price

As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included in the list price that day, the Sealion 6 Plug-in Hybrid 1.5 DM-i was S$207,888.

List prices move with each COE round and with each dealer's offer. Before comparing totals, check what each offer includes.

The COE

The price page's COE section sets out the rule for this car. With a 1,498cc engine, the Sealion 6 1.5 DM-i needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These move with every bidding round, and the COE page has the latest results.

Road tax

For the 1,498cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$683.08 a year. It was checked on 2026-10-19 and is before any age surcharge.

Cars more than 10 years old pay more:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page shows the sums for other engines.

Car insurance for the standard driver

The BYD Sealion 6 price page prices:

  • Car: Sealion 6 1.5 DM-i, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

Only 8 insurers price it for that driver. The lowest premium is S$975.20. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,476.74. That is S$1,501.54 more, or 154% on top. Prices include 9% GST.

Eight insurers on our panel have no online price for this model yet. As a newer model, it may take time before more of them add it. For now, that leaves fewer prices to compare.

The excess

Most plans here set a S$600 excess. One sets S$500 and three set S$800. The highest is S$2,500, and one plan has no excess.

The excess is what you pay first on a claim. Check it next to each premium.

How the price changes

The price page shows the lowest price with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,906.42, S$931.22 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,526.08, S$550.88 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,464.95, S$489.75 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,046.39, S$71.19 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$1,004.53, S$29.33 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$928.23, S$46.97 less

Losing the NCD has a big effect on this car. With no discount, the lowest price is 95% higher, nearly double. Even a 20% NCD costs much more than 50%.

Car age matters far less. A new Sealion 6 costs only a little more than the 3-year-old car on the page. That is useful to know if you are buying new at the list price above.

These are lowest prices. Other plans may change by different amounts.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average is S$735.99. The Sealion 6 costs 33% more than that, and all 6 of them are cheaper to insure.

So insurance is a point where the Sealion 6 costs more than its rivals today. Other BYD models are on the BYD car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.

Costs that depend on you

Some costs vary too much to give one figure:

  • Charging and petrol: a plug-in hybrid can run on both. What you spend depends on how often you charge, the charger's rate, your distance and the pump price.
  • Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus parking elsewhere. Check whether chargers are near where you park.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and hours.
  • Servicing: the maker's schedule for the engine and the electric parts, plus tyres and brakes. Ask what the battery warranty covers.
  • Depreciation: what the car loses in value depends on what you pay and what it fetches later.

Yearly costs we can show

For the BYD Sealion 6 1.5 DM-i (1,498cc), dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$683.08 a year before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$975.20 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,906.42
  • Insurance, a new car: from S$1,004.53

One-off costs: a list price of S$207,888 as listed on 2026-10-10, and a COE in the October 2026 1st round of S$130,001 (Category A) or S$130,100 (Category B).
