Alfa Romeo 147 ownership costs and insurance in Singapore

An Alfa Romeo 147 in Singapore: COE, road tax and dated car insurance examples, and why its premium barely moves with NCD.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Alfa Romeo 147 is a hatchback you will now meet mostly on the used market. If you are thinking of buying one, or already own one and want to check the bills, this page lays out the costs it carries in Singapore: the COE, road tax and car insurance.

The insurance prices are examples read on 20 October 2026. They are for one stated driver and car, so your own premium may differ. Use them to see how the costs fit together, not as a quote.

Versions on the quote form

The new-car list has no Alfa Romeo 147 on sale now, so there is no list price here. The quote form has three versions:

  • Alfa Romeo 147 1.6: 1,598cc
  • Alfa Romeo 147 2.0 Distinctive: 1,970cc
  • Alfa Romeo 147 Ducati Corse: 1,910cc

The figures on this page are for the 147 1.6, the version most insurers quote. The two larger engines pay more road tax, and their insurance may differ.

The COE behind the car

A car in Singapore runs on a Certificate of Entitlement. For the 147 1.6, with a 1,598cc engine, the category depends on power. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.

The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. The COE page shows newer rounds as they come.

For a used 147, the COE is already paid, or it has been renewed. Ask how many years are left on it, since that is the time you are buying.

Road tax and the age surcharge

For the 147 1.6's 1,598cc engine, LTA's formula sets road tax at S$741.72 a year, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge applies to cars over 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

This is worth checking on any 147 you look at. A car past 10 years will pay more than the base figure, and the amount rises each year up to the 14-year step. The 2.0 Distinctive and the Ducati Corse have larger engines, so start from a higher base. See the road tax page for those.

Car insurance for a set driver

The Alfa Romeo 147 price page uses these details:

  • Car: 147 1.6, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

11 insurers price the 147 for that driver. The lowest premium is S$1,123.15 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is the dearest asks at least S$1,613.60. The gap is S$490.45, or 44% on top. Prices include 9% GST.

The spread is narrower than on many common cars, but S$490.45 a year is still a real sum. Some figures on the page are estimates, so confirm the final price on the insurer's own quote.

The excess on each plan

The excess is the amount you pay on each claim. For the 147, most plans carry S$600. The range runs from S$500 up to S$3,000, with a few plans at S$2,500. A high excess can wipe out a lower premium the first time you claim.

How the price behaves

This is where the 147 stands apart. The price page shows the lowest premium after one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,123.15, the same
  • 20% NCD: S$1,123.15, the same
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,123.15, the same
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,105.14, S$18.01 less
  • A new car, registered this year: S$1,123.15, the same
  • A car 8 years old: S$1,022.81, S$100.34 less

For most cars, losing your NCD pushes the lowest price up sharply. Here the lowest price does not move at all. That does not mean NCD is worthless for a 147. It means the lowest plan on offer prices this car the same either way, while other plans may still rise. The age of the car makes the biggest change, with an 8-year-old 147 costing S$100.34 less at the lowest price.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six cars for the same driver and car age:

These average S$724.93. The 147 costs 55% more than that, and all six are cheaper to insure. If insurance cost weighs heavily in your choice, that gap matters. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks more models, and the Alfa Romeo car insurance page covers the make.

Owner-dependent costs

Some costs depend on you, so no figure is given:

  • Parking: season parking at home, plus parking at work and in town.
  • Petrol: your mileage times the pump price.
  • ERP: your routes and the hours you drive.
  • Parts and servicing: an older car can need more work. Ask for the service history and check how easy parts are to get before you buy.
  • Depreciation: set by the price you pay and the COE years left.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the 147 1.6, dated:

  • Road tax: S$741.72 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$1,123.15 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,123.15
  • Insurance, car 8 years old: from S$1,022.81

If the car ever needs a new COE, the October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 (Category A) or S$130,100 (Category B). There is no list price, as the 147 is not on the new-car list.
