This shortlist is for buyers looking at an SUV with a list price under S$250,000. It covers eight cars. Each has at least one version listed under that figure on 10 October 2026. Those list prices include COE as it stood that day. They are not today's prices.

The cars run in order of today's lowest premium, lowest first. That premium is for a standard driver. The driver is aged 40, married and has been driving for 10 to 19 years. The driver has a 50% no-claim discount, a 3-year-old car and comprehensive cover. Treat each premium as an example. Your own quote will depend on your own details.

How to read each entry

Every entry gives the same five facts in the same order:

  • Body type
  • Engine or motor
  • Versions listed, with list price and power
  • Road tax a year
  • Lowest premium today, and how many insurers quoted

Some cars also have versions listed above S$250,000. They are shown so the range is complete, and they are marked as over the limit. Each car has its own price page, linked at the end of its entry.

What the premiums show

Today's lowest premiums on this list range from S$3.59 for the Vezel to S$114.53 for the Model Y. The number of insurers quoting runs from 21 to 28. Two cars share a figure of S$18.27, and two more share S$21.31.

The two electric cars sit far apart. The Atto 3 is second on the list, and the Model Y is last. So the type of power alone does not set the order. For more on how insurers look at the two, see electric vs petrol car insurance.

These are lowest premiums for one standard driver. A younger driver, a lower no-claim discount or a new car could all give a different result. The no-claim discount guide explains how that discount builds up.

How to choose between them

The list price is the largest single cost. On this shortlist, versions under S$250,000 run from S$178,000 to S$245,888 as listed on 10 October 2026. Those prices included COE that day. COE premiums move with each bidding exercise, so ask the seller for a current price. The COE guide explains how the bidding works.

Road tax is a yearly cost, so compare it over the years you plan to keep the car. On this list it runs from S$585.72 a year for the GLA to S$5,399.82 a year for the 378kW Model Y. See the road tax guide for how it is set.

Insurance is another yearly cost. Here are points to compare when you get quotes:

  • Your own profile. Get quotes for your age, driving years and no-claim discount, not the standard driver's.
  • The exact version. Power and engine size can differ between versions of one car.
  • The excess. A low premium can come with a higher excess. The car insurance excess guide explains what it means.
  • Workshop choice. Some policies limit repairs to set workshops. See authorised or any workshop.
  • Number of quotes. More insurers quoting gives you more to compare.

Also check what each version offers for the price. Some cars here come in petrol, petrol-electric and 4WD forms. Others come in one form only. Look at the full version list for each car, and note which versions are over S$250,000.

To set the cars against each other on cost, open each price page and compare the figures side by side. The compare page and the price pages show today's quotes and who offers them.
