The Fiat Idea is a 1.4-litre car that is no longer on the new-car list. If one is on your shortlist, this page covers what it costs to keep: road tax, the COE and car insurance. The insurance range is wide, so that is where comparing pays most.
All insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not a quote, and your own price depends on your details.
The car priced
The new-car list has no entry for this model on sale now. There is no list price, power or body type on this page.
Our quote form prices the Fiat Idea 1.4, with a 1,368cc engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote.
Car insurance
The details
The Fiat Idea price page prices:
- Car: Idea 1.4, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
What 13 insurers ask
13 insurers price the Idea for that driver. The lowest premium is S$622.34 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,003.97. That is S$1,381.63 more, or 222% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Three insurers on our panel have no online price for this model.
A gap that wide means one quote tells you little. Compare several prices before you decide on a plan.
The excess
Most plans set a S$600 excess. Two set S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three set S$2,500 and one S$3,000. Every plan here carries an excess.
You pay the excess on each claim, so weigh it with the premium.
How the price changes
The price page shows the lowest price with one change:
- No NCD (0%): S$999.43, S$377.09 more
- 20% NCD: S$999.43, S$377.09 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$999.43, S$377.09 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$622.34, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$642.42, S$20.08 more
- A car 8 years old: S$569.36, S$52.98 less
Losing the NCD adds 61% at the lowest price. A 20% NCD and a younger driver reach the same figure.
The older driver pays no more. An 8-year-old Idea costs a little less to insure.
These are lowest prices. Other plans may change by more or less.
Because the NCD makes such a difference, a small claim can cost more in later premiums than the repair itself. Some plans offer NCD protection for an extra charge.
The COE
With a 1,368cc engine, the Idea 1.4 needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These change every round; the COE page has the latest.
For a used Idea, the COE expiry date sets how many years of use you are buying.
Road tax
For the 1,368cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$606.84 a year. That was checked on 2026-10-19 and is before any age surcharge.
From the tenth year, the surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The road tax page has sums for other engines.
Comparing quotes
When you set plans side by side, check:
- Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop. Plans that allow any workshop may cost more or less.
- Named drivers: an extra, younger driver can raise the price.
- NCD protection: an optional extra on some plans.
- Excess: your share of each claim.

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Honda Freed: S$642.42

Before you buy
For a used Idea, confirm:
- COE expiry: how many years of use remain.
- Road tax: when it falls due, and whether the surcharge applies.
- Service record: what has been done and what may be due.
- Your own quote: for this car and your details.
Costs that depend on you
These have no single figure:
- Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus elsewhere.
- Petrol: your distance and the pump price.
- ERP: your routes and hours.
- Parts and servicing: for an older car, ask how parts are sourced and who services it. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due.
- Depreciation: for a used car, mostly the COE years left.
