TL;DR
- For one adult on a five-day single trip to the Maldives, 19 insurers price it today from about S$20 to about S$198.
- That spread is an example for one set of assumptions. It is not what you will pay.
- Read four things first: medical cover, trip cancellation, COVID-19 cover and pre-existing conditions.
- A longer trip, an older traveller or extra people all change the price. A family plan usually costs less than separate plans.
- If you travel more than about three weeks a year in total, annual cover usually costs less than buying single trips.
How much does travel insurance for the Maldives cost?
Today, the example trip is priced from S$19.60 to S$198.50. That is 19 insurers, priced on 16 October 2026.
The gap is wide because the plans are not the same. Most insurers sell two to four levels of plan. Higher levels pay more for medical bills, cancellation and lost bags. So the plan at the low end and the plan at the high end are not buying the same cover.
What you pay depends on your own trip, your age and the plan level you pick. The full list for today is on the Maldives price page, sorted from the lowest premium up.
What does that example price assume?
It assumes one adult, aged 18 to 59, going for five days. The trip leaves in 30 days. It is a single trip, and there is no cruise.
Change any one of these and the price moves. A different age, more days or more people will give a different list. To see prices for your own dates and travellers, get a quote on the travel insurance page.
What do I check on medical cover for a Maldives trip?
Medical cover is the part to read first. It pays for treatment and hospital stays overseas.
It also covers emergency evacuation and repatriation. In plain terms, that means moving you somewhere for treatment, or bringing you home. The limits for each of these differ between plans. So compare the actual figures instead of assuming two plans are the same. Our results list shows the three benefits that differ most between plans, which makes this quicker.
One exclusion to know: losses while under the influence of alcohol or drugs are not covered.
How much medical cover feels enough depends on you. It depends on your health, your age, and how much you could pay yourself if a bill went over the limit.
Will the plan pay me back if I have to cancel?
Yes, if you cancel for a reason the policy covers. Trip cancellation pays back what you cannot get back, for example if you fall ill or there is a death in the family.
Timing matters here. Cancellation cover starts the day you buy. A plan bought as soon as you book covers the weeks before you fly. A plan bought the day before you fly gives you almost none of that time.
Plans also cover shortening your trip, travel delays and missed connections, and lost or damaged baggage. Belongings left unattended in a public place are not covered. Travel to places the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against is not covered either.
The cancellation limit differs between plans. What you need depends on how much you have paid upfront that you cannot get refunded. So check the refund terms on your flights and accommodation before you compare. If something does go wrong, the Claims page explains how claiming works.
Is COVID-19 covered, and what about pre-existing conditions?
COVID-19 is usually covered, and pre-existing conditions usually are not.
Most plans now include COVID-19 cover for medical bills and cancellation. Prices on this site include it unless you switch it off in the filters.
Pre-existing medical conditions are a different story. They are not covered unless you declare them and the insurer accepts them. A few plans do cover them, mostly on shorter single trips. You can find those plans with the filter on the results page.
This one depends on your own health. It depends on whether you have a condition at all, and whether the insurer accepts what you declare. Answer the health questions fully when you apply.
Single trip or annual cover for a Maldives holiday?
For one trip, single-trip cover is how the example is priced. One trip means one departure from Singapore and one return. Most insurers here cover a single trip of up to 90 or 182 days.
Annual cover covers every trip you take in a year, each up to a set length, often 90 days. If you are away more than about three weeks a year in all, annual cover usually costs less.
For annual cover you pick a region instead of countries: ASEAN, Asia Pacific or worldwide. Pick the region that covers the furthest place you expect to go. Check that the region you pick includes the Maldives. For a sense of annual prices, today a year of trips in Asia for one adult runs from S$180.00 to S$915.00 on the annual Asia price page.
Which one fits depends on how many trips you take, how long they are, and where else you plan to go this year.
How do trip length and who travels change the price?
More days cost more, and so do older travellers. Single-trip prices rise with the number of days away.
Age matters too. Insurers charge less for children and more for older travellers. Some stop covering travellers above 75, 80 or 85. The insurer confirms your age when you apply.
If the whole family is going, a family plan covering two adults and their children usually costs less than separate plans. For couples, families and groups, we price plans from the insurers that offer a family or group plan. So the list you see can look different from the one-adult example.
The only way to know your own number is to put in your real dates, ages and travellers.
